'Starlight' is a collection of six Fleur outfits - sold in 1988 or 1989. They were some of the last designs made by Otto Simon, before the switch to New Look. There are no promo photos of Fleur dolls in Starlight outfits, sadly.

The exuberance of the late 1980s fashion is clearly showing in Starlight designs - they are over-accessorised, in strong 'look at me' colours, and 'sunglasses with everything'.

1289

Fleur Starlight fashion 1289 shows it is possible to mix pink, yellow and blue and still look okay... maybe. Some of us teenagers of the 1980s would have probably loved this look! Note the very unusual running shoes - this is the only outfit with these shoes, but they are too small for Fleur feet, so she can't wear them.

Fun fact: the pink bag with silver strap is the same as outfit 1283.

Accessories: pink suede bag, pink sunglasses, yellow anklewarmers

Shoes: yellow running shoes

1290

Fleur Starlight outfit 1290 may have inspired Kim Basinger's one-shoulder gown at the 1990 Oscars ceremony. This two-looks-in-one fashion scores all the late 1980s flamboyance points - gold lamé fabric, gold high heels, a clash of red skirt and green tights... and an absolutely MASSIVE flower to wear on the head. With sunglasses.

Accessories: green metallic bag, pink sunglasses, gold headband with ribbons

Shoes: gold high heels with large flower

1291

This outfit would look FANTASTIC on Alexis Colby (played by Joan Collins) of the Dynasty fame. Hats were her thing - especially hats with net in front. She loved big shoulders, big belts and rich colours.

Fleur Starlight fashion 1291. is not a one-piece pantsuit, but a sparkling strapless tube top, plus separate pants with a pink waistband, sprinkled with star-shaped sequins and light-pink pearls. The same pearls are on the hat net. The blue metallic jacket has a huge frilled collar and big shoulders.

Accessories: silver handbag, blue sunglasses, blue metallic hat with white net

Shoes: white kitten heels with small flower

1292

When I see Fleur Starlight outfit 1292, I think 'ballerina on a farm' - but that was probably not what Otto Simon designers intended. The shiny dark blue skirt is actually really pretty, and the red tulle edging is a nice touch. Then there's a ribbed yellow top, yellow tights, and a ribbon headband with a HUGE pink tulle bow. With sunglasses.

Note the boots - they are not the usual Fleur boots, but a one-of-a-kind pair.

Accessories: red bead necklace, pink sunglasses, blue-red shoulder bag, headband with a tulle bow

Shoes: red knee-high boots

1293

Fleur Starlight outfit 1293 is the only one without sunglasses - in fact, it's the classiest of them all. It's a strapless hot pink dress with a drop waist, and a flouncy knee-length skirt. There is a strange square added at the waist, no idea what it's for. It looks like a pocket, but it's just a piece of fabric.

Accessories: white pearl necklace, pink shoulder bag with yellow strap

Shoes: plain white high heels (pumps)

1294

And finally, here is the most CONFUSING outfit of this set - Fleur Starlight fashion 1294. As there is no promo photo, I cannot figure out how this is worn. What is the dark red brocade thing? When worn as a cape on the shoulders, it covers half the dress and looks lumpy and shapeless. If worn under the red satin dress, it disappears because it's too short. If the red dress is worn like a skirt and the dark piece like a top, then Fleur's boobs are in danger of exposure whenever she raises an arm (forget calling a taxi).

1295

Starlight 1295 is not an outfit, but one number given to the full Starlight set.

It was probably made so for the convenience of Fleur merchants. They could place an order for the full set using this one number, or for each outfit using its individual number. This photo of the full set - with its number 1295 at the bottom - comes from a 1988 trade catalogue.
